About

God, I love putting. I always have. Sure, it has been frustrating at times over the years, but there is such artistry and feel to putting that I romanticize it. It truly is the most important part of the game. Striping a drive down a tight fairway, dropping a 6 iron to 3 feet, or chipping in to save a hole are all fantastic feats but putting lights out has always been the bee’s knees to me. It’s civilized, classy even. It takes skill, confidence, and intellect to putt well. It takes a great stroke.

When I was playing as a junior golfer, middle school specifically, my parents got me my first nice putter. This is pre-Scotty Cameron at Titleist and everyone who was anyone was gaming a PING Anser of some variation. My dad took me to Edwin Watts Golf (oldie but a goodie) on Cobb Parkway/Hwy 41 in Marietta, Georgia (home of the Big Chicken and made famous in The Allman Brothers Band Ramblin’ Man, “and I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus, Rollin' down highway 41.”) to test putters. With his advice and the help of a store associate I fell in love with a PING Anser 3. I believe that day is when my love of putting truly started. I now had a flat stick I felt I could trust, and that confidence (and with practice) translated to my performance on the green. I still have that PING Anser 3 and yes, I even made the mistake of putting a Superstroke Flatso 3 on it at one time (yeash, forgive me).
